Sarasota Man Facing Aggravated Battery Charges Following Shooting Incident

SARASOTA, FL. – Daevaun Corbert, 24, of Sarasota, has been arrested and is facing charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon following a shooting in the 5200 block of North Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, just before midnight on Sunday, August 15, 2021.

When Sarasota Police officers arrived they found an adult male lying in a grassy area behind an apartment complex with several gunshot wounds to his body. 

The victim was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to survive.  Sarasota Police officers found Corbert standing nearby and he was placed under arrest.

Witnesses nearby told Sarasota Police officers that Corbert and the victim, who are neighbors, were arguing and fighting with each other in the grassy area outside of an apartment complex. 

Witnesses said Corbert walked into an apartment and came back out and fired three shots at the victim, hitting him. 

It’s believed the two men were arguing and fighting over the noise in the apartment complex.

Corbet was transported to the Sarasota County Jail without incident.
