Sarasota Man Pleads Guilty To Attempted Enticement Of A Lee County Minor For Sex

LEE COUNTY, Fla. – Javier Chavez, 34, of Sarasota, pleaded guilty today in federal court to charges of attempted enticement of a minor to engage in sexual activity and attempted transfer of obscene matter to a minor, announced United States Attorney Roger B. Handberg.

Chavez faces a minimum sentence of 10 years in federal prison, with a maximum of life imprisonment. A sentencing date has not yet been scheduled.

According to court documents, Chavez engaged in online communication with an undercover law enforcement officer posing as both the mother and the 14-year-old daughter on May 15 and 16, 2024.

After confirming the girl’s age, Chavez engaged in sexually explicit conversations and sent her explicit videos of himself.

Chavez was apprehended by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office when he arrived at a residence in Lee County, intending to engage in sexual activity with the minor. He subsequently admitted to deputies that his intentions were sexual.
