Sarasota Probationary Officer Fired And Jailed After Teen Accusation

SARASOTA, Fla. – A probationary officer with the Sarasota Police Department is behind bars and out of a job this week following a criminal investigation involving a minor.

Gabriel Ornellas-Victorio, 38, was arrested on April 30 on a charge of simple battery. The arrest stems from allegations that he intentionally touched or struck a 16-year-old girl against her will.

The chain of events began earlier this month when the department received an initial complaint regarding Ornellas-Victorio’s off-duty behavior. He was placed on administrative leave on April 2, 2026.

However, while he was sidelined, a second, separate complaint was filed with the agency. This new information triggered a criminal investigation that ultimately provided the probable cause necessary for his arrest and immediate termination.

Ornellas-Victorio had been with the Sarasota Police Department for about 18 months before his firing. Chief Rex Troche made it clear that the department would not tolerate such conduct within its ranks.

“This decision reflects our commitment to integrity and transparency. The trust of our community is earned and we will protect it,” Troche said in a statement. “When someone violates the law and trust placed in them, there is no path forward with our agency.”

While the criminal charges have been filed, the department noted that its internal investigation into Ornellas-Victorio is still active. He is currently being held at the Sarasota County Jail.

Law enforcement officials are asking anyone with additional information about this case or anyone who has had contact with Ornellas-Victorio to come forward. You can reach Detective Megan Buck with the Sarasota Police Department Criminal Investigations Division at 941-263-6067.
