Salem Radio Network host Scott Jennings clashed with Democratic Rep. Jared Moskowitz of Florida during a panel discussion on “CNN NewsNight,” directly calling out the congressman for his vote against the continuing resolution (CR) that failed to prevent the recent government shutdown.

The federal government entered a shutdown on October 1st after the Senate failed to pass the short-term funding bill. Moskowitz had joined the majority of House Democrats in voting against the measure on September 19th, while only one House Democrat, Rep. Jared Golden of Maine, voted in favor of it.

Moskowitz opened by discussing Republican maneuvers, specifically mentioning the removal of then-House Speaker Kevin McCarthy in October 2023 for bringing a CR to the floor, and complained about the impact of the shutdown on his constituents who rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

Jennings quickly interrupted the congressman’s argument, cutting to the heart of the matter: “But you did vote against the SNAP benefits that—” Moskowitz immediately claimed, “I did not vote against the SNAP benefits,” prompting Jennings to challenge him directly: “If you had voted for the CR, would we have SNAP right now?”

The debate escalated as Moskowitz attempted to pivot, raising Democratic demands for the continuation of enhanced payouts for Obamacare, claiming 25,000 people in his district were going to lose their health insurance.

Jennings countered, asking, “And how many do you have that are going to lose their SNAP?”

When Moskowitz tried to change the subject again by citing President Donald Trump’s financial aid package to Argentina, Jennings delivered a final, stinging critique of the Democratic strategy.

“Democrats have repeatedly voted to give zero of SNAP benefits. I’m sorry, this is not—this whole thing could have been averted if Democrats had done what they did in March, which is vote for Joe Biden’s budget levels. They have refused to do it,” Jennings asserted.

He concluded by accusing Democrats of being “enthralled to the radical left” and acting out of “political fear,” which he argued was the reason the shutdown occurred, leaving federal law enforcement unpaid and aid programs like SNAP in jeopardy.
