CLEARWATER, Fla. – A Clearwater man has died from his injuries following a hit-and-run crash Tuesday night, and Clearwater Police are continuing their search for the driver involved.
The victim has been identified as 60-year-old Elbert Gilbert of Clearwater.
The incident occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m. in the 1400 block of Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard. Investigators report that Gilbert was walking in a marked crosswalk when he was struck by a vehicle traveling westbound. The driver of the vehicle did not stop and fled the scene immediately after the collision.
Clearwater Police and Clearwater Fire & Rescue arrived shortly after the crash and transported Gilbert to Largo Medical Center. He remained in critical condition until he passed away late Wednesday.
Authorities are searching for a red Ford Mustang, likely a 2020s model, in connection with the fatal crash. The vehicle is expected to have fresh damage to its front end. Officers have been reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses and are asking for the public’s help in locating the car.

The incident, which occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m., left an adult male with critical injuries after he was struck by a vehicle that failed to remain at the scene.
