A Scavenger Hunt Through Books Highlights Nature and Encourages Summer Learning
Second Lady Usha Vance joined Ohio First Lady Fran DeWine today at the Ohio State Fair’s Family Day, engaging with families and children to promote the ongoing Summer Reading Challenge. The two distinguished guests co-hosted a unique scavenger hunt that took participants on an adventure through books, emphasizing Ohio’s rich natural landscapes.
During their visit, both Second Lady Vance and First Lady DeWine shared their personal passion for reading and encouraged the young attendees to continue their learning journey throughout the summer months.

“It was a pleasure discussing the Summer Reading Challenge with First Lady of Ohio Fran DeWine and sharing our love of reading with kids at the State Fair,” said Second Lady Usha Vance. “I am grateful for her support of my Summer Reading Challenge and encourage everyone to pick up a new book today.”
First Lady DeWine echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the critical role of early literacy. “Early literacy is so important to ensuring Ohio kids are ready to go when they reach kindergarten,” Mrs. DeWine stated. “It was so special to be with Second Lady Usha Vance today at the Natural Resources Park at the Ohio State Fair to read to kids and challenge them to explore nature and encourage a love of reading.”
