ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – A second suspect has surrendered to law enforcement following a fatal shooting inside a St. Petersburg YMCA bathroom last week, police said.
Jeremiah Peterson, born April 13, 2008, turned himself in to authorities on Tuesday. He has been charged with felony murder.
The shooting occurred around 2:09 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22, at the Childs Park YMCA, located at 691 43rd St. S. Officers responding to the call found an 18-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds.
Emergency crews transported the victim to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Authorities are withholding the victim’s name.
According to police investigators, the victim and another 18-year-old man traveled from Clearwater to St. Petersburg to buy a firearm. They arranged to meet Peterson and My’ Kiese Johnson, born January 9, 2008, inside the YMCA bathroom to complete the deal.
The transaction quickly turned violent, leading to an exchange of gunfire inside the facility. Johnson received a minor gunshot wound to his face during the altercation and drove himself to the hospital for treatment.
Both Peterson and Johnson now face charges of felony murder in connection with the incident.
