“See? I’m Being Nice”: Trump Jokes With Media In Florida At Road Renaming Ceremony

It was a day meant to honor the President’s name, but the moment that stole the show was a rare, self-aware quip about his adversaries in the press.

President Donald Trump was in Florida on Friday to mark the ceremonial renaming of a stretch of Southern Boulevard, the key artery linking Palm Beach International Airport to his Mar-a-Lago club. The roadway, frequently traversed by the presidential motorcade, is the latest infrastructure to bear his brand since his return to office in January.

During the briefing, amidst the fanfare of the dedication, Trump paused to acknowledge the press pool gathered at the back of the room.

“We have a lot of media back there,” Trump said, gesturing to the reporters. “We appreciate that you’re here. We very much appreciate that you’re here.”

Then, flashing a knowing look to the crowd of dignitaries and local leaders, he delivered the punchline: “See? I’m being nice today to the media.”

The room erupted in laughter. It was a lighthearted acknowledgment of the typically combative dynamic between the President and the press corps, a brief truce in an event otherwise focused on local honors.

The renaming of the road is part of a broader trend of buildings and initiatives being branded with the President’s name following his inauguration. State lawmakers approved the honorary designation for the route that effectively serves as the President’s driveway when he is in his “Winter White House.”

Beyond the jokes and the signage, Trump used the platform to highlight key allies in the room. He heaped praise on State Representative Meg Weinberger, calling her “MAGA Meg” and recounting her hard-fought electoral victory.

“I used to tell her, ‘I don’t know, that’s a tough race,'” Trump recalled. “But go do it. And she did it, and she won.”

He also gave a heartfelt nod to his son, Eric Trump, who was in attendance. “When I’m away, I see things happening all over the world, but Eric has been right there at the front,” the President said.

For the attendees in Palm Beach, the day was about cementing a legacy on the map. But for a few viral seconds, it was about a President flipping the script—if only for an afternoon.
