Former federal health official Dr. Anthony Fauci is set to testify publicly next week before a Senate committee, Senator Rand Paul announced during a Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) media event.
According to Paul, any statements Fauci makes during the upcoming session will not fall under the protection of the presidential pardon granted by Joe Biden before leaving office. The senator stated that this means any new false testimony could result in direct legal consequences.
The announcement coincided with updates on a new multi-agency environmental health agreement. The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) have signed a joint memorandum of understanding.
Under the agreement, the three agencies plan to combine resources to improve research, strengthen oversight, and reduce public exposure to toxic heavy metals found in food and the environment.
The media event also featured several high-profile speakers from government and health advocacy sectors. Dr. Mehmet Oz, the administrator for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), spoke about recent legal challenges facing the agency.
Dr. Oz addressed lawsuits filed by activist organizations objecting to rules requiring people to verify their eligibility for programs like Medicaid using their tax returns.
Senator Ron Johnson also addressed the gathering, focusing on the treatment that unvaccinated patients received in hospitals during the COVID-19 pandemic. Johnson noted that there is an ongoing effort to hold those responsible for these hospital protocols accountable.
Other speakers at the event discussed wellness, nutrition, and chronic care management.
Author Marisa Zeppieri spoke about her new book on living with lupus, while health figures like Dr. Eric Berg, Liana Werner-Gray, and Dana Parish were also featured. Highlighting the overall tone of the gathering, attendee Tony Ebel noted the importance of focusing on younger generations. “Truly nothing is more important,” Ebel said. “Everything shifts when we get our kids healthy again. It’s time!”
