U.S. Senator Ashley Moody recently addressed the state conventions of both the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, utilizing the platforms to thank veterans for their service and outline her ongoing legislative focus on the U.S. Armed Forces and military families.
The addresses come as the nation prepares for a major milestone.
“As we approach our nation’s 250th anniversary on July 4th, we must never forget that our freedom isn’t free—it was secured and defended by generations of patriots who have fought for it,” Moody said.
Moody, a member of a military family who recently joined the Senate Armed Services Committee, has backed a variety of federal measures aimed at active-duty personnel and veterans. Her legislative record includes cosponsoring the Veterans Bill of Rights Act, which mandates that the U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs clearly inform veterans of their healthcare and benefits rights, as well as the Military Spouse Hiring Act, which targets employment obstacles faced by military families.
Additionally, Moody cosponsored the Major Richard Star Act to adjust disability policies for retired combat veterans, supported the Veterans Education and Technical Skills (VETS) Opportunity Act to expand educational benefits, and backed the Restore VA Accountability Act of 2025.
On defense and national security, Moody introduced the Drone Espionage Act, a bill designed to penalize video surveillance espionage at military sites. She also requested that President Donald Trump deploy F-35As to Homestead Air Reserve Base and marked the bicentennial of the U.S. Navy’s presence in Pensacola, emphasizing the strategic role of the Navy and Coast Guard in the Florida Panhandle.
Local outreach efforts included hosting a town hall meeting in Tampa with VA Secretary Collins to address regional veteran concerns.
Through her seat on the Senate Armed Services Committee, Moody secured more than $851 million in funding for Florida’s military installations in last year’s National Defense Authorization Act. The funding is earmarked for shipbuilding, the delivery of next-generation aircraft, and the construction of the Golden Dome missile defense system.
Prior to her tenure in the U.S. Senate, Moody managed the Military and Veterans Assistance Program during her time as Florida Attorney General, an initiative established to protect servicemembers and veterans from fraud and scams.
