Former Governor praises Donalds as a “principled conservative” who will make Florida more affordable.
United States Senator and former Florida Governor Rick Scott has formally endorsed Congressman Byron Donalds in his bid for Florida Governor.
The endorsement positions Scott, who served two terms as the state’s chief executive, alongside President Trump in supporting Donalds for the 2026 election.
In a statement to Florida Politics, Senator Scott expressed his confidence in the congressman.

“Byron is a principled conservative who will lead with courage and conviction and fight on behalf of every Floridian,” Scott said. He further highlighted his past collaboration with Donalds, noting their work together on “critical legislation to make flood insurance more affordable and help Floridians rebuild and recover from catastrophic hurricanes,” as well as “securing billions of dollars in tax relief for Florida families.”
The endorsement comes as Donalds is the only major Republican to have officially declared his candidacy, though other potential candidates, including First Lady Casey DeSantis, are being considered.
President Trump’s endorsement, made in February, was strong encouragement for Donalds to enter the race. In a Truth Social post, Trump praised Donalds as “an outstanding leader who has been a true champion for the America First movement.”

The President wrote that as governor, Donalds “would work closely with me to advance our America First Agenda. He will fight tirelessly to Secure our Border, Stop Migrant Crime, Strengthen our Military, Protect our Vets, Restore our Economic Power, Advance American Energy DOMINANCE, and Defend our always under siege Second Amendment.”
