SARASOTA, Fla. – The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office has launched an investigation into an officer-involved shooting that took place Thursday evening in a Sarasota neighborhood. The incident occurred at approximately 6:30 p.m. in the vicinity of 2100 59th Street.
Authorities remained on the scene for several hours to secure the area and collect evidence. Despite the heavy police presence, officials stated that the situation was contained shortly after the encounter.
“At this time, there is no threat to public safety,” the Sheriff’s Office noted in a press release.
The agency’s Criminal Investigation Section is currently handling the active inquiry into the circumstances of the shooting.
Further details regarding the condition of those involved or the events leading up to the discharge of a firearm have not yet been made public. The Community Affairs Section is expected to provide an update as the investigation progresses.
