Shovel Showdown On Shrimp Boat Leads To Arrest Of Texas Man In Key West

MONROE COUNTY, Fla. – A shrimp boat deckhand was arrested Wednesday night for allegedly attacking a fellow crew member with a plastic shovel while anchored off Smathers Beach in Key West.

The incident occurred around 9:15 p.m. when the captain of the commercial shrimp boat was awakened by a fight between two of his crew members. The victim sustained injuries to his head, neck, and face, though thankfully none were life-threatening.

The suspect, 55-year-old Lee Linh Huu from Houston, Texas, was arrested and charged with aggravated battery. He was taken to the Monroe County Jail.

The U.S. Coast Guard and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission also responded to the scene. It’s unclear what sparked the altercation between the two crew members.
