New and chilling details have emerged in the double homicide of Hollywood legend Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele, with police reportedly discovering a gruesome scene at a Santa Monica hotel hours after the couple was killed.

Their son, 32-year-old Nick Reiner, is now formally under arrest for the murders.

According to TMZ, the timeline of events began to unravel early Sunday morning. Nick Reiner reportedly checked into The Pierside Santa Monica at approximately 4 a.m., using his own credit card. While hotel staff noted that he appeared “tweaked out” upon arrival, witnesses said he showed no visible signs of blood or injury at the front desk.

However, the scene left behind was starkly different. Nick, who had booked the room for a single night, never formally checked out. When housekeeping entered the room later Sunday, they reportedly discovered blood on the bed and a shower “full of blood.” The room’s window had also been deliberately covered with bed sheets.

LAPD Robbery-Homicide detectives swarmed the hotel on Monday to interview staff and process the forensic evidence. Nick was eventually tracked down and apprehended roughly 20 miles away in Exposition Park, near downtown Los Angeles.

The tragic sequence of events appears to have started hours before the hotel check-in. Sources indicate that Nick had attended Conan O’Brien’s Christmas party on Saturday night, where his behavior drew attention.

Despite the upscale nature of the event, he arrived wearing a sweatshirt and appeared to be under the influence, avoiding interaction with other guests. The night reportedly culminated in a heated argument between Nick and his father.

The case has cast a spotlight on the family’s private struggles, with reports surfacing that the Reiners had spent years trying to help their son battle persistent substance abuse issues.

Rob Reiner, the director behind cultural touchstones like The Princess Bride and When Harry Met Sally, and Michele Reiner remain the subject of tributes pouring in from around the world as authorities continue to build their case.
