A former Volusia County teacher will spend the rest of his life in prison after being sentenced to 135 years for crimes involving child sexual abuse materials and animal cruelty.
Attorney General James Uthmeier announced the sentence for David Robert McKeown, who was employed at UBIC Academy during the commission of his crimes. An investigation by the Holly Hill Police Department, sparked by a tip from the platform Discord, revealed McKeown used the school’s Wi-Fi during operating hours to send and receive illicit content.
Authorities also recovered video evidence of McKeown sexually abusing a family pet.

“The abuse and trauma this predator inflicted is sick, and he deserves every moment of this sentence,” Uthmeier stated regarding the outcome.
Circuit Judge A. Christian Miller formally designated McKeown a sexual offender. In addition to the prison term, the judge ordered that McKeown be permanently barred from owning animals should he ever be released.
The conviction included 19 counts related to child pornography and six counts of sexual conduct with an animal.
