Hernando County Fire and Emergency Services (HCFES) responded to a reported residential fire in the 9,000 block of Sikes Cow Pen Rd at 12:35 am on Monday.

BROOKSVILLE, Fla. – Hernando County Fire and Emergency Services (HCFES) responded to a reported residential fire in the 9,000 block of Sikes Cow Pen Rd at 12:35 am on Monday.

Officials say the call came from the occupant who reported a fire in his single-story wood-framed home.

According to reports from the units on the scene, the caller was woken up by the smoke detectors and discovered a large fire in the living room of the home.  The occupant and his wife escaped the home unharmed, officials say.

HCFES arrived within 9 minutes and reported smoke and heavy fire from the home.

The crews advanced multiple hose streams and extinguished the fire within 42 minutes.  The fire was under control at 1:26 a.m. The fire resulted in a total loss of the home.

The State Fire Marshall’s Office was called to investigate the fire, and the two occupants that were displaced by the fire were referred to the Red Cross for assistance.

HCFES responded with 4 fire engines, 1 Squad, 2 ALS medic units, 2 Water Tenders, 1 Air Truck, 2 Battalion Chiefs, and Fire Corps, for a total of 23 personnel.
