A single ticket sold in Georgia has claimed the massive Mega Millions® jackpot, ending a four-month-long run of drawings without a grand prize winner. The lucky ticket matched all six numbers in the Friday, November 14, drawing to win the estimated $980 million prize ($452.2 million cash value).
This monumental win marks the largest-ever Mega Millions jackpot won in Georgia and is the eighth-largest jackpot in the game’s history. It also sets a new record for the biggest prize ever awarded in the month of November. The winning numbers drawn were the white balls 1, 8, 11, 12, and 57, plus the gold Mega Ball 7.
The jackpot had been rolling since it was last won in Virginia on June 27, leading to a record-setting 40 consecutive drawings in a single jackpot run.
“The $980 million is the largest jackpot that’s been won since the Mega Millions game changed back in April,” said Joshua Johnston, lead director for the Mega Millions Consortium. “Congratulations to our big winner from Georgia and to all our players who are winning more than ever with this new version of the game.”
A Jackpot Run for the History Books
The extended jackpot run generated significant secondary prizes across the country. Over the 40 drawings, there were nearly 14.3 million winning tickets at all prize levels, totaling nearly $343.4 million in non-jackpot prizes.
- This included 21 second-tier prizes of $2 million or more across 13 states.
- 347 third-tier prizes ranging from $20,000 to $100,000 were won in 40 different jurisdictions.
In the November 14 drawing alone, aside from the grand prize winner, a ticket sold in Michigan matched the five white balls with a 3X multiplier to win a hefty $3 million second-tier prize. Additionally, 48 tickets won the third-tier prize for matching four white balls plus the Mega Ball, with prizes ranging from $20,000 up to $100,000 depending on the multiplier drawn.
This marks only the fifth time the Mega Millions jackpot has been won this year and the first time in Georgia since November 2016.
The jackpot for the next drawing on Tuesday, November 18, resets to its new starting value of $50 million ($23.1 million cash).
