Smokin’ In The Sun: Pitmasters In Paradise Hits Central Florida This Weekend

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The air in Auburndale is about to get a lot thicker—and much more delicious. On April 24–25, the grills will officially be fired up at the Camp Margaritaville RV Resort for “Pitmasters in Paradise,” a Kansas City Barbecue Society (KCBS) sanctioned festival that marks a major milestone for Florida’s culinary scene.

This isn’t just a casual backyard cookout. As a professional-grade competition, the event serves as the high-octane finale of the Florida Triple Crown of BBQ series.

Pitmasters from all over the region are descending on Polk County to battle for cash prizes and the prestige of being named the ultimate champion. Because this is the final stop of the Triple Crown, the overall series winner will be crowned right here, honoring the county’s long-standing reputation as the Barbecue Capital of Florida.

The event is the result of a coordinated effort between Camp Margaritaville Auburndale, Visit Central Florida, and Whiskey Bent BBQ Supply.

While the professionals focus on the perfect smoke ring, the public will have plenty to keep them busy. The two-day schedule is packed with live music, interactive games, a dedicated kids’ zone, and a lakeside market featuring local artisan vendors.

Food is, naturally, the main attraction. Attendees can browse a variety of vendors offering slow-smoked meats and desserts while soaking in the atmosphere. The entertainment peaks on Saturday night with a special acoustic performance by country music artist Michael Ray.

While the festival is open to the public, organizers have noted that tickets are required for entry. Between the lakeside views and the smell of hickory in the air, the weekend is set to be the definitive close to Florida’s premier barbecue circuit.
