Social Media Scandal Topples Texas Substitute: Arrest Made After “Inappropriate” Chats Surface

A 27-year-old substitute teacher is behind bars in Bell County this week following an investigation into her digital interactions with students. Angela Palmares was taken into custody without incident on Wednesday, facing a second-degree felony charge for an improper relationship between an educator and a student.

The situation came to light after administrators at the Llano Independent School District flagged suspicious behavior to local law enforcement.

According to a letter sent home to families by Superintendent Mac Edwards, the red flags involved “inappropriate communication with students, specifically through a social media platform outside of the school day.”

While the specific nature of those messages hasn’t been made public, the fallout was immediate. Palmares, whose last day in a classroom was April 2, has been stripped of her credentials and permanently removed from the district’s substitute roster. She is currently being held on a $150,000 bond.

Details regarding the number of students involved or their ages remain under wraps, as both the Llano County Sheriff’s Office and school officials have declined to comment on the specifics of the ongoing investigation.

However, Edwards confirmed that the district has already reached out to the parents of the affected children.

“The district takes all allegations of this nature extremely seriously and remains committed to providing a safe and supportive environment to students,” Edwards stated in his message to the community.

He noted that privacy laws regarding personnel and minors prevent the district from releasing further details at this stage.
