A Myrtle Beach dental office employee is facing felony charges after police say she embezzled more than half a million dollars from her employer in less than eight months.

Ashanti Kinney was arrested on Nov. 18 and charged with breach of trust with fraudulent intent following an investigation at Affordable Dentures & Implants on 38th Avenue North.

According to the police report, the investigation began on Aug. 20 when the regional manager contacted authorities about a suspected internal theft. Kinney was responsible for collecting patient payments and making bank deposits.

Investigators allege she exploited this role by marking patient accounts as “paid” in the system but keeping the cash for herself instead of depositing it.

According to Fox 10, a review of bank records, scheduling paperwork, and audit documents reportedly uncovered that Kinney stole a total of $612,990.20 between Jan. 1 and Aug. 15.

Kinney was booked into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center. She has since been released after posting a $20,000 bond.
