South Carolina Man Gets 16 Years After Hotel Drug Ring Bust

A Columbia man with a long criminal past will spend more than 16 years in federal prison for running a major drug operation out of local hotel rooms.

Federal agents with the Drug Enforcement Administration caught wind that 31-year-old Micaiah Green was acting as a main supplier of illegal drugs in the area. Investigators used multiple sources to track Green, discovering that he was moving from hotel to hotel to hide and sell his supply.

Court documents show that in just a three-month window between April and June 2024, Green distributed over 2,000 grams of methamphetamine, 200 grams of fentanyl, and 900 grams of marijuana around Columbia. At the time he was selling these drugs, Green was already out on a state bond for previous legal issues.

Green has a lengthy criminal record. His past convictions include burglary, first-degree assault and battery, attempted armed robbery, and possessing a gun as a violent felon. He also has prior convictions for trafficking meth and selling cocaine.

United States District Judge Sherri Lydon sentenced Green to 200 months in federal prison. Because the federal prison system does not offer parole, Green will have to serve the full sentence, which will be followed by five years of court-ordered supervision.

The Drug Enforcement Administration and the Richland County Sheriff’s Department worked together to investigate the case, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Ariyana Gore handled the prosecution.
