Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) stated on Friday that he believes the “liberation” of Cuba is “close at hand,” aligning his remarks with the Trump administration’s intensifying campaign against the island nation’s communist government.
Following his initial claim, Graham posted “Cuba Libre!” on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.
The South Carolina senator has spent recent weeks suggesting that the administration pivot its attention toward Cuba as its ongoing operations in the Middle East begin to wind down. During an appearance on the Fox News program Sunday Morning Futures in March, Graham wore a “Free Cuba” hat and told host Maria Bartiromo, “The liberation of Cuba is upon us. It’s just a matter of time.”

The television interview occurred alongside reports from the Wall Street Journal that Graham had recently made multiple trips to Israel to consult with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding strategies to lobby the administration on Iran policy.
Since taking office, the Trump administration has steadily increased economic and diplomatic pressure on Cuba. These measures include the imposition of new sanctions, a stricter oil blockade, and formal declarations labeling Havana a national security threat. Additionally, the U.S. administration recently indicted former Cuban leader Raúl Castro in a murder case—a legal action that Cuban officials have formally denounced as politically motivated.
The administration’s official actions mirror recent statements from the White House, where officials have indicated that the communist-led nation is “ready to fall.” Earlier this year, the administration also floated the concept of a “friendly takeover” of the island.
