AccuWeather Warns of 100-Degree Highs and Extreme Humidity Across the Region
A dangerous heat dome is settling over the southeastern United States, bringing with it a mid-summer swelter that will see actual high temperatures near 100 degrees Fahrenheit and a heat index exceeding 110 degrees for several days.
AccuWeather senior meteorologists warn that the excessive heat and humidity will create hazardous conditions for residents, particularly those who are vulnerable.
Cities such as Charlotte, Columbia, Augusta, and Chattanooga are forecast to experience triple-digit highs. Atlanta and Birmingham are also expected to approach the century mark, with Tuesday likely being the hottest day.

This heat dome has been present over the middle of the nation and the Northeast in recent days.
Compounding the extreme heat will be unusually high humidity levels, creating a “proverbial steambath” with little relief from breezes except along coastal areas.
Nighttime lows will offer minimal respite, remaining in the upper 70s to near 80 degrees in many urban areas. Isolated, heavy downpours are possible due to the excessive atmospheric moisture, potentially leading to flash flooding.

Experts advise residents to take precautions, especially young children, the elderly, and those engaged in manual labor. A significant cooldown, accompanied by widespread thunderstorms, is anticipated by late next week, bringing highs back into the 80s and some reduction in humidity.
