LAKELAND, Fla. — SPCA Florida is joining NBCUniversal Local’s 12th annual Clear The Shelters campaign this August, offering discounted adoption fees and raising funds to support local animal welfare efforts.
The month-long national initiative, presented by Hill’s Pet Nutrition, runs from Aug. 1 to Aug. 31. SPCA Florida will host adoption events at its Lakeland campus and at the Orlando Cat Café. Visitors to either location can pick a note from a beach ball display to receive an adoption fee discount ranging from 10% to 100%.
All available pets—including dogs, cats, and kittens of various sizes—are fully vetted, vaccinated, and microchipped prior to adoption.
“This is a great time to adopt one of Polk County’s homeless animals, and in return, receive unconditional love,” said Shelley Thayer, Executive Director of SPCA Florida.
Adoption hours during the campaign are Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
In addition to local adoptions, a national fundraising drive organized by Greater Good Charities is running through Sept. 15. Contributions to the general fund can be made through Sept. 15, while donations designated for specific participating shelters are open through Aug. 31 at ClearTheSheltersFund.org.
Since its launch in 2015, the Clear The Shelters campaign has partnered NBC and Telemundo stations with local rescues nationwide. To date, the effort has helped more than 1.3 million pets find homes and raised over $5.6 million for animal shelters.
