Spotted seatrout season reopens in the Central East Management Region of Florida on January 1st, 2025.

This region, which spans from Palm Beach County to Volusia County, includes all state and federal waters. Spotted seatrout, a popular inshore species prized for its delicate flavor and exciting fight, has been under a seasonal closure to protect the fish during the colder winter months when they are more vulnerable.

During the closure, which began on November 1st, 2024, anglers were still allowed to catch and release spotted seatrout in the Central East Management Region. However, starting January 1st, they can once again harvest these fish within the legal bag limits and size restrictions.

The FWC encourages anglers to familiarize themselves with the regulations for spotted seatrout, including bag limits, size restrictions, and any area-specific rules. This information can be found on the FWC website at MyFWC.com/Marine by clicking on “Recreational Regulations” and “Spotted Seatrout.”

The reopening of spotted seatrout season is welcome news for anglers in Central East Florida, who can now enjoy pursuing this popular species once again. The FWC reminds anglers to fish responsibly and help conserve this valuable resource for future generations.
