SPRING HILL, Fla. – A Spring Hill man died in an apparent murder-suicide on Monday morning after a verbal altercation with his wife. Hernando County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence on Philatelic Drive at approximately 6:25 a.m. following a report of a shooting.

A witness at the residence told deputies that Bryan Guthrie, 45, and his wife, Pattie Guthrie, were arguing. As the witness attempted to leave the home, she heard a gunshot. Upon returning inside, she saw Pattie Guthrie lying on the floor, bleeding.

The witness then fled the residence and called 911. When deputies arrived and forced entry into the home, they found Pattie Guthrie deceased near the master bedroom, having suffered a fatal gunshot wound. They also discovered Bryan Guthrie deceased inside the master bedroom with a handgun nearby, also from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the argument escalated, leading Bryan Guthrie to shoot his wife before taking his own life with the same weapon.
