HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. – A search for a man considered armed and dangerous came to a quiet conclusion Wednesday morning. Hernando County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that 32-year-old Dwayne Ives was taken into custody in Hernando County around 10:00 a.m. following an intensive public appeal for information.

The situation began earlier this week when HCSO identified Ives as a primary suspect in a sexual offense investigation.

Deputies issued a warning to the public, describing Ives as a 6’5” man weighing approximately 200 pounds. He was last spotted near the intersection of Cobblestone Drive and Spring Hill Drive, dressed entirely in black and carrying a green waist pack.

During the search, authorities stressed that Ives might be carrying a handgun, advising residents to stay clear and call 911 rather than making any attempt to approach him. The alert prompted a wave of tips from the community as patrol units combed the Spring Hill area.

Sheriff’s officials announced the update shortly after the arrest, ending the brief period of heightened security in the neighborhood.

Ives is currently being held in custody while the legal process moves forward. Investigators expressed gratitude to the residents whose reports helped lead to a swift resolution without further incident.
