SPRING HILL, Fla. – A 15-year-old student at Springstead High School in Spring Hill was arrested Tuesday after allegedly making a threat to “shoot this [expletive] up.”

The incident occurred around 11:01 a.m. on February 4th. A student witness reported seeing the 15-year-old in the bathroom placing a covering over his face and making the threatening statement as he exited. The witness immediately reported the incident to a school guardian, who then notified the school resource deputy.

The school was placed on a ‘hold in place’ status while deputies investigated. The student who made the threat was identified and questioned but refused to answer any questions. A search of the school did not turn up any weapons.

The student was arrested on a charge of Interfering with School Administrative Functions and transported to the Hernando County Detention Center. He was later transferred to the Department of Juvenile Justice facility in Ocala.

The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office is not releasing the student’s identity because he is a minor.
