St. Pete Wrong Way Driver, DUI Crash Sunday

SAINT PETERSBURG, Fla. – On Sunday, just after 3:30 p.m., a 28-year-old Bradenton man, was traveling the wrong way on I-175 in the eastbound lanes approaching the southbound exit ramp from I-275, while a 40-year-old St. Pete woman, was traveling southbound on the I-275 exit ramp to eastbound I-175.

The two collided. The St. Pete woman’s car spun and collided a second time against the inside barrier wall before overturning.

Following the collision, the Bradenton man fled the scene on foot, but was soon located at 801 6th Avenue South in St. Petersburg.

Troopers identified the man as Thiago Dos Santos, 28. Santos was taken to the Pinellas County Jail where he provided a breath sample of 0.136. Santos was charged with DUI Injury, Reckless Driving, Leaving the Scene of a Crash with Injury, and Driving in the Wrong Direction.

Both driver sustained only minor injuries, according to Troopers and both were wearing their seatbelts.
