ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The St. Petersburg City Council is set to review proposed changes to local utility rates and fees for the upcoming fiscal year, with key public meetings scheduled for next month.
The council evaluates water, wastewater, reclaimed water, stormwater, and sanitation fees each year to determine funding needs for operating and capital expenses. A first reading of the proposed adjustments is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 13, at 3 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall.
During that meeting, council members will establish the date for a formal public hearing, currently slated for Thursday, Aug. 27, at 5:01 p.m. If approved during final council votes, the new utility rates and fees will take effect on Oct. 1, 2026, and will be reflected in customer billing statements starting on that date.
City officials noted that the rate adjustments support ongoing maintenance, operational expenses, and capital infrastructure improvements. Much of the city’s utility system has reached or exceeded its original design lifespan, requiring sustained investment to modernize aging infrastructure, avoid service disruptions, and reduce emergency repair costs.
Residents attending the Aug. 27 public hearing will have the opportunity to view a full presentation on the recommended rate structures and offer public comments. Detailed information regarding the proposed rate adjustments is available online at stpete.org/Rates.
