ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The City of St. Petersburg is pushing back the timeline for developers to submit competing proposals for the redevelopment of the approximately 86-acre Historic Gas Plant District, following the receipt of an unsolicited offer.

The City, which acknowledged receiving an unsolicited proposal for the property on October 21, 2025, announced the decision on Tuesday to grant additional time for interested developers to prepare their bids.

New Public Notice and Proposal Timeline

  • Public Notice Publication: The formal notice soliciting alternative proposals will now be published on January 4, 2026. This notice is mandated by Florida Statute $163.380$ to ensure a fair opportunity for competition when a municipality receives an unsolicited offer for the disposition of property within a community redevelopment area.
  • Proposal Submission Deadline: Responses from interested parties will be due 30 days after the publication of the notice, setting the new deadline as February 3, 2026.

The extension is designed to accommodate the complex nature of the redevelopment project, which is one of the most significant in the city’s history. It is situated on the site of the former Historic Gas Plant neighborhood, which was cleared for the development of Tropicana Field.

Submission Details and Contact

Detailed instructions on how to submit proposals will be included in the public notice once it is released. The notice and submission guidelines will be accessible online at: www.stpete.org/realestate

Private developers or other interested parties with questions regarding the proposal process should reach out to the City’s Real Estate and Property Management Department via email at: business@stpete.org for further information.
