St. Petersburg Hosts Monthly Sandbag Distribution Event This Saturday

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — St. Petersburg residents can collect free sandbags this Saturday, Aug. 8, as city officials urge households to prepare ahead of potential tropical storms.

The distribution takes place from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Pavement Traffic Operations Building, located at 1744 9th Ave. N. While sandbags are available at this site year-round during weekday hours, the city hosts these extended weekend events on the second Saturday of every month to accommodate working residents.

Each household is eligible to receive up to 10 sandbags. Residents must present proof of residency to receive their allotment.

City staff will be on-site throughout the event to assist seniors or individuals with disabilities who need help filling or loading the bags, as well as to answer general questions regarding flood preparation.
