ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – A 33rd Street intersection collision has turned into a fatal investigation after a teenage motorcyclist died from injuries sustained in a May 9th hit-and-run crash.
Yaudel Enrique Rosabal Fernandez, 18, of St. Petersburg, passed away over the weekend at Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital. He had been hospitalized since the night of the crash, which occurred just after 10 p.m. in the 3300 block of 38th Avenue North.
According to police reports, Rosabal Fernandez was riding a Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R motorcycle eastbound on 38th Avenue North. Simultaneously, a gold Toyota Camry driven by 31-year-old Promise Jermeise Burnett, also of St. Petersburg, was traveling westbound and approaching 33rd Street North.
The collision occurred when Burnett attempted a left turn at the intersection, placing the Camry directly into the path of the oncoming motorcycle. The Kawasaki struck the passenger side of the Toyota.

Immediately following the impact, Burnett fled the scene on foot with two children. The three individuals returned to the crash site approximately 30 to 40 minutes later.
The two children were transported to Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital, where they were treated for minor injuries. Burnett also sustained minor injuries but was not hospitalized at the time.
Burnett was initially arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a crash causing serious bodily injury. Following the death of Rosabal Fernandez, authorities amended the charge to leaving the scene of a crash involving death.
Police state that the investigation into the collision remains ongoing.
