ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – A long-serving member of the St. Petersburg Police Department is facing legal trouble following an arrest by sheriff’s deputies over the weekend. On February 16, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office took Officer Curtis Wright into custody on a misdemeanor charge of domestic battery.

Wright, who joined the force on April 10, 2010, is a veteran of the department’s Uniform Patrol Bureau. The arrest comes at a time when Wright was already away from his standard duties, as he is currently on parental leave. Records show that he is scheduled to remain on leave until March 6.

Upon his return on March 7, Wright will not return to the streets. Instead, the department confirmed he will be placed on an administrative assignment. This change in status serves as a temporary measure while his case moves through the legal system.

The St. Petersburg Police Department indicated that the legal process must play out before they take final disciplinary action. Once the court proceedings are officially finished, Wright will face an internal investigation conducted by the Office of Professional Standards.

That inquiry will determine whether he violated department policies and what his future with the force will look like.
