St. Petersburg Motorists Advised of Detour Route from Sunday to Thursday
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Starting this Sunday, September 28, and continuing through Thursday, October 2, drivers in St. Petersburg should be aware of a series of nightly closures affecting the eastbound I-175 exit ramp. The ramp leading to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street South and 8th Street South will be closed each night from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., weather permitting.
The closures are a necessary part of the ongoing I-175 concrete pavement repair project, which spans from 16th Street South to 4th Street South in Pinellas County. This long-term project is anticipated to be completed in late 2025.
During the temporary closures, motorists will be directed to an alternative route. Drivers will need to continue eastbound on I-175 and take the 6th Street South exit. From there, they should turn left onto 6th Street South, then left again onto 4th Avenue South, and finally proceed toward their intended destinations at 8th Street South and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street South.
Advanced warning signs and electronic message boards are being placed in the area to help guide motorists through the detour. Officials are advising drivers to expect delays and potential congestion during these hours and to plan their travel accordingly.
