ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – A 29-year-old woman lost her life early Wednesday morning following a two-vehicle collision in St. Petersburg.
The crash, which occurred just after 2:00 a.m., shut down a portion of the 900 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street South as investigators processed the scene.
St. Petersburg Police report that the incident began when a white Toyota Camry attempted to back out of the parking lot at the Sunshine Food Mart, located at 901 MLK Jr. St. S. As the Toyota entered the main travel lanes, it was struck on the passenger side by a black Jeep Wrangler traveling southbound.
The impact proved fatal for the Toyota’s passenger, Tamara Williams. Authorities confirmed that Williams died at the scene and noted that her next of kin have been notified.

The driver of the Toyota and a passenger from the Jeep were both transported to Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital. Officials described their injuries as minor. The driver of the Jeep was not injured in the collision; police stated he remained at the scene and has been cooperative with the ongoing investigation.
The roadway was cleared later in the morning, but the investigation into the specific causes of the crash remains open and active.
