POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A woman’s relocation from Boston to Polk County took an unexpected turn when she was arrested for stealing a U-Haul truck. Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd, known for his colorful commentary, shared the details of the arrest with a warning to would-be criminals.
Blanche Eddie, 40, arrived in Polk County with a U-Haul that she had rented in December and failed to return or pay for. Despite being contacted by the company, Eddie refused to comply, leading to her arrest for grand theft of a motor vehicle.

“She moved to Polk County because it’s close to where her friend’s family is in Orlando,” Sheriff Judd explained. “So, let me get this right. You come to Polk County, Florida, from Boston, and you immediately violate the law? So, now, we’re going to introduce you to the Polk County Jail.”
Adding to the incident, Eddie’s friend, 41-year-old Richard Valentine, who was with her at the time of the arrest, was also taken into custody. Valentine claimed to be unaware of the stolen U-Haul but was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and cannabis. He was arrested on drug charges.

“Richard said, ‘Hey, dude, I’m just here to help,'” Sheriff Judd recounted. “Well, you know, if you really want to work fast, you bring methamphetamine with you. And cannabis.”
Sheriff Judd concluded with a stern message: “Here’s a word to the wise to Blanche Eddie and all others, just like her. If you come here, we welcome you with open arms. Unless you’re a criminal, then you need to get the heck out. Or we’re taking you to jail.”
