Republican strategist Scott Jennings suggested on Tuesday that Democrats risk political “blowback” for trying to link President Donald Trump to the late disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein, as newly released records continue to reveal previously unknown ties between Epstein and high-profile Democratic figures.

Appearing on the “2WAY Tonight with Mark Halperin” podcast, Jennings pointed to recent disclosures, including text messages showing Virgin Islands Del. Stacey Plaskett exchanging texts with Epstein during Michael Cohen’s 2019 testimony.

Jennings argued that the facts may show “more evidence that Epstein was doing a lot of stuff with Democrats than he was doing anything with Donald Trump.”

He cited examples already in the public record, including Plaskett’s communication, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries’ alleged attempts to fundraise with Epstein, and former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers taking a step back from public life after soliciting dating advice from the sex offender. Democratic Maryland Rep. Jamie Raskin defended Plaskett, downplaying her communication with Epstein during the 2019 hearing as a routine conversation with a “constituent” and dismissing Republican efforts for censure as lacking an ethical or legal basis.

Despite the strategist’s warnings, the House of Representatives defeated a Republican-led effort on Tuesday evening to remove Plaskett from her position on the House Intelligence Committee, with some Republicans joining Democrats to reject the measure.
