TAMPA, Fla. – Residents in the Tampa Bay area are bracing for a week of intensifying heat and sporadic thunderstorms as temperatures are projected to climb into the mid-90s by next weekend.
According to the latest National Weather Service data, the week will begin with mostly cloudy conditions and a high of 89°F on Sunday. While Monday remains mostly cloudy with a high near 90°F, the atmosphere is expected to become more active Monday night.
Forecasters have placed the chance of precipitation at 30%, with isolated showers and thunderstorms possible before 2 a.m., followed by a narrow window for rain between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m.
The risk of afternoon convection increases on Tuesday. A 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms is expected after 2 p.m. under partly sunny skies, with temperatures again reaching 90°F. These storms are anticipated to taper off by 8 p.m. Tuesday night.

Midweek conditions will see a slight reprieve in storm activity. Wednesday’s forecast includes a 20% chance of afternoon rain and a high of 90°F, followed by a transition to clear, sunny weather on Thursday with a high of 89°F.
The heat is expected to intensify toward the end of the week:
- Friday: Sunny with a high of 92°F.
- Saturday: Mostly sunny with a high of 93°F.
- Sunday: Mostly sunny with a high of 94°F and a 20% chance of thunderstorms.
Winds throughout the period will remain light, generally shifting between the northwest and southwest at speeds of 5 to 10 mph. Overnight lows will fluctuate between 67°F and 72°F.
Local authorities continue to monitor drought conditions in West Central Florida, noting that the expected start of the official rainy season typically begins in late May or early June.
