ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – St. Petersburg police detectives are filing an arrest warrant for Ladavion King on charges of first-degree murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm following the fatal shooting of a city employee.
The charges come after an incident shortly after noon on Wednesday, July 22, when officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 4100 block of 12th Avenue South.
Authorities found the victim, a 47-year-old mother of four, shot inside her front-loader work vehicle. She had worked as a sanitation technician for the City of St. Petersburg for 12 years. She died from her injuries.
Investigators stated that the victim and King were known to each other and described the incident as a targeted attack.
Following the shooting, the suspect fled the scene and drove south. Later that afternoon, Florida Highway Patrol troopers located him in Lee County.
Members of the Florida Highway Patrol and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office stopped King in the southbound lanes of Interstate 75. He was taken into custody following a standoff.
King, born Dec. 9, 1982, is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital in Lee County. He remains in the custody of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
Police noted that the arrest warrant from St. Petersburg detectives is in addition to any charges King may face from the Florida Highway Patrol.
