A multi-state fraud investigation came to a close this month after the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man accused of running a nationwide scheme involving fake checks and high-value online purchases.
David Gene Ford faces charges of grand theft, organized fraud, and writing false checks. He was booked into the Nassau County Jail and Detention Center on August 14, where he remains held on a bond exceeding $90,000.
The case originated in December 2025 when a local seller reported a fraudulent transaction on Facebook Marketplace. The victim agreed to sell personal property, including four high-end remote-controlled cars valued at $2,500, to Ford.
After handing over the merchandise, the seller discovered the check provided by Ford was declined. Subsequent attempts to reach him failed when the phone number he gave went out of service.
Detectives traced details from the bounced check to a similar open case in Knoxville, Tennessee, where a suspect operated under the alias “Thor Chevy Haraldsson.” Further investigation revealed that Ford was wanted by law enforcement agencies across several states, including Tennessee, Colorado, and Washington.
Investigators determined Ford consistently used the same pattern across jurisdictions: adopting aliases, writing bad checks for expensive items, and cutting off contact once he had the goods.
Detectives also found multiple public warning posts regarding Ford and his alleged activities circulating on regional Facebook community boards.
Ford was booked into the Nassau County Jail & Detention Center on August 14. He’s being held on a bond of more than $90,000.
