TAMPA, Fla. – A two-vehicle collision on Interstate 275 left an SUV overturned and sent a Tampa man to the hospital early Thursday afternoon.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m. in the southbound lanes of I-275 near mile marker 40, just before the State Road 60 interchange.
State troopers reported that a Nissan SUV, driven by a 70-year-old Tampa resident, was traveling southbound in the outside center lane. At the same time, a 62-year-old man from California was driving a Hyundai sedan southbound in the adjacent outside lane.
The incident unfolded when the driver of the Nissan attempted to change lanes, striking the Hyundai. The impact caused the Nissan to rotate and flip over on the highway. The Hyundai managed to come to a stop along the outside shoulder of the interstate.
The 70-year-old driver of the Nissan sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported by emergency crews to a local hospital for treatment. The driver of the Hyundai was uninjured in the crash. Troopers have not yet released the identities of either driver or indicated if any citations are pending.
