Swamp Hideout Ends In Shackles: Indiana Fugitive Cornered In Central Florida

The long arm of the law reached across state lines last week as a murder investigation spanning hundreds of miles culminated in a Florida neighborhood.

Robert Sage, a man wanted in connection with a homicide in Elkhart, Indiana, is currently behind bars after a coordinated multi-agency sting brought his time on the run to an abrupt halt.

The breakthrough began when Detective Fredette of the Marion County Sheriff’s Office teamed up with the Elkhart Police Department. Working on a lead that Sage had fled the Midwest for the Sunshine State, Fredette assisted Indiana investigators in tracking the suspect’s movements and, crucially, securing a DNA sample.

That forensic evidence proved to be the tipping point. After reviewing the new data, the Elkhart Police Department successfully obtained a formal warrant for Sage’s arrest on a charge of murder.

With the warrant live, the search intensified. Federal authorities joined the hunt, and members of the U.S. Marshals Service tracked Sage to a specific location in Florida. In a joint operation, marshals and local deputies moved in, taking Sage into custody without further incident.

Following his arrest, Sage was booked into the Marion County Jail, where he now awaits extradition. He will eventually be transported back to Indiana to face the court regarding the allegations in Elkhart.

Local officials have not yet released details about the victim’s identity or the circumstances of the crime, citing the ongoing nature of the judicial process.
