SWAT Team Takes Barricaded Suspect Into Custody After Six-Hour Standoff

PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. – On Wednesday, deputies responded to a residence located at 10954 Starkey Road in Seminole for a domestic disturbance after 42-year-old Joshua Wieder made threats of violence against a family member.

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team was called to assist after Wieder barricaded himself inside his residence and refused to exit.

As deputies were attempting to make contact with Wieder, he shot toward deputies who were inside an armored vehicle located outside of his residence.

Deputies assigned to the Negotiator Response Team made contact with Wieder who surrendered peacefully and uninjured after a nearly six-hour stand-off.

Detectives from the Robbery/Homicide Unit will be investigating the incident and criminal charges against Wieder are pending.

The investigation is continuing and we will update this story as details are released.
