Sweat And Storms: The Tampa Bay Weather Rollercoaster Heading Your Way This Week

TAMPA, Fla. – The Tampa Bay area is in for a typical summer mix of high heat indexes and shifting rain chances over the next several days, according to the latest regional forecast.

Residents can expect temperatures to hover consistently in the high 80s all week, but high humidity will make it feel much hotter. Today, the high will reach near 89 degrees, though heat index values are expected to climb as high as 97. There is a 20% chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms popping up after noon, accompanied by a light west wind shifting to 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon. Tonight, those isolated storms may linger before 9 p.m., with a small chance of renewed showers after 5 a.m. The overnight low will sit around 75 degrees.

Sunday brings a slightly higher 30% chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms, primarily before 2 p.m. Despite the rain, it will remain mostly sunny with a high near 89 degrees and heat index values peaking at 98. Winds will start calm before shifting west at 5 to 9 mph. Sunday night drops down to a low of 75 degrees under mostly cloudy skies, with a 20% chance of isolated storms after 7 p.m.

The workweek kicks off on Monday with a 40% chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms during the day and a high near 88 degrees. West-southwest winds will pick up to 6 to 11 mph in the morning, bringing potential gusts as high as 20 mph. Monday night brings a low of 76 degrees and a continuing 20% chance of isolated storms.

Midweek sees the highest likelihood of rain. Tuesday features a 30% chance of daytime scattered showers and storms with a high near 89, but those odds jump to 40% Tuesday night as temperatures drop to 74. On Wednesday, the region faces a 60% chance of precipitation, with a slight chance of early morning showers followed by likely showers and thunderstorms after 8 a.m. The high will stay near 88 degrees. Wednesday night maintains that 60% chance of storms before 2 a.m., cooling down to a low around 70 degrees.

The wet pattern starts to clear out slightly by the end of the week. Thursday holds a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms with a high near 87, dropping to a 30% chance Thursday night and a low of 70. Friday wraps up the forecast period mostly sunny with a high near 88 degrees and a remaining 30% chance of rain.
