PASCO COUNTY, Fla. – Local pet seekers in Land O’ Lakes need to mark their calendars for a shift at the shelter. Starting April 13, 2026, Pasco County Animal Services (PCAS) is officially rolling out a new schedule for its Adoption Center. The big highlight of the change is the addition of Sunday hours, a move designed to get more animals into permanent homes.
Under the new plan, the center will be closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Doors will open from noon to 5 p.m. on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays, while Friday and Saturday hours will run slightly longer, from noon to 6 p.m.
The department is shifting these blocks to prioritize dog playgroups and streamline customer service. According to PCAS officials, the new routine provides the animals with more structured rest time, which is a major factor in keeping shelter pets calm and healthy.

“Opening Sundays is expected to increase adoptions and return-to-home rates,” said PCAS Director Gary Herrero. “By offering additional rest time for animals and enhanced opportunities, we anticipate a reduction in kennel stress and an improved overall experience for both pets and customers.”
The Adoption Center isn’t the only thing seeing a change. The shelter’s Vaccine Clinic will now operate on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to noon. Tuesdays have been designated as the primary surgery day specifically for fosters and rescue groups.
While the front-facing hours are shifting, the boots-on-the-ground work remains steady. Animal Control will continue its standard Monday through Friday schedule, and officers will remain on call for emergency responses during nights and weekends.
