TAMPA, Fla. – The Tampa Bay area is preparing for a dramatic shift in weather this week, as a stretch of unseasonably warm afternoons is expected to give way to near-freezing temperatures by Monday night.

According to the latest National Weather Service data, the region will enjoy sunny skies and highs near 83°C today, with similar warmth continuing through Saturday. However, residents should watch for patchy fog during the late night and early morning hours, particularly after 1 AM.

The transition begins on Sunday, which brings a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms. While the daytime high will reach 76°C, a strong cold front will move through the area, bringing northwest wind gusts as high as 23 mph.

By Sunday night, temperatures are forecast to plummet to a low of 42°C. The cooling trend intensifies on Monday, with a projected high of only 59°C and clear skies. The coldest air is expected to arrive early next week, with Monday night lows reaching 35°C and Tuesday night dropping further to 34°C.

Temperatures are expected to begin a gradual recovery by Wednesday, with sunny skies and a high returning to near 72°C.
