Tampa Bay Area Set For A Steady Sizzle And Rising Afternoon Storm Chances

TAMPA, Fla. – Tampa Bay residents should keep both their sunglasses and umbrellas handy this week as the region prepares for a dramatic climb in temperatures alongside a few scattered afternoon surprises.

After a comfortable Thursday night with lows hovering around 61°C under partly cloudy skies, the heat is expected to crank up significantly starting Friday.

The final workday of the week will see nothing but sunshine with a high near 86°F. While the morning will start with calm conditions, a light south-southeast breeze of about 6 mph will pick up before noon.

Friday night looks to be another mild one, mirroring Thursday’s low of 61°F with winds shifting from the west-northwest before dying down completely.

As the weekend kicks off, the mercury continues its steady march upward. Saturday is forecast to reach 87°F. However, the National Weather Service indicates that the heat will bring a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m.

These storms are expected to be short-lived, with only a 10% chance of lingering rain before 8 p.m. Saturday night.

Sunday follows a similar pattern: a high of 88°F and a 20% chance of afternoon storms. The real change arrives late Sunday night into early Monday morning, as patchy fog is expected to develop after 1 a.m.

The upcoming workweek is where the heat truly intensifies. Monday is projected to hit 90°F, accompanied by the familiar 20% chance of late-day thunderstorms.

By Tuesday, the region could see its hottest day of the stretch, with a projected high of 91°F under clear, sunny skies. The heatwave persists into Wednesday, staying strong with a high of 90°F. Throughout this period, overnight lows will gradually climb from the mid-60s to near 67°F, offering little relief from the daytime humidity.
