TAMPA, Fla. – Residents might want to keep both their flip-flops and heavy coats handy this week, as the region prepares for a volatile stretch of weather that will see temperatures swing nearly 50 degrees.

The week begins with a taste of early summer, but forecasters warn that a series of fronts will bring rain, wind, and eventually, a stark reminder that it is still winter.

Enjoy the Warmth While It Lasts

Saturday offers the best outdoor conditions of the week. After some patchy morning fog burns off, the area will see sunny skies and unseasonably warm highs near 81 degrees. Winds will remain calm, making it an ideal day for boating or beachgoing.

However, the shift begins as early as Saturday night. Fog is expected to roll back in during the early morning hours, signaling a transition.

The First Drop

By Sunday, the pattern changes. A weak front brings a 20 percent chance of morning showers and gusty winds that could reach 18 mph. While the high will still reach a respectable 75 degrees, the air will begin to feel different by evening. Sunday night lows will dip sharply into the mid-40s, a precursor to the cooler days ahead.

Monday and Tuesday will offer a brief period of stability. Expect partly sunny skies with highs hovering between 68 and 72 degrees—classic, crisp Florida winter weather.

Mid-Week Soak and the Big Chill

The weather story turns messy by Wednesday. Clouds will thicken, bringing a 40 percent chance of rain in the afternoon that jumps to 60 percent overnight. Showers are likely to linger into Thursday, keeping highs in the low 60s.

Once the rain clears late Thursday, the bottom drops out of the thermometer.

Forecasters are predicting a frigid Thursday night, with skies clearing to allow temperatures to plummet to around 36 degrees. By Friday, despite the return of full sunshine, the high will struggle to reach 59 degrees, marking a shivering end to a week that started in the 80s.
