Tampa Bay Area Weather: Spring Heatwave Sends Temperatures Soaring Toward 90s

TAMPA, Fla. – The Tampa Bay region is shifting into a period of prolonged heat and clear skies this week, with temperatures expected to climb steadily toward the mid-90s by the weekend. Forecasters are calling for a dry stretch dominated by bright sunshine and light easterly winds, providing little relief from the building warmth.

Today is kicking off the trend with a high near 85 degrees and clear, sunny conditions. A steady east wind between 6 and 11 mph is bringing occasional gusts up to 18 mph, though things will settle down tonight as the low drops to a comfortable 59 degrees under mostly clear skies.

The heat builds incrementally starting Monday, which will see mostly sunny skies and a high near 87. While Monday night may bring a few more clouds and a low of 60, the brief reprieve from the sun won’t last.

By Tuesday, the mercury is expected to hit 89 degrees as the wind turns calm before shifting back to the east in the morning.

Wednesday will mirror Tuesday’s peak of 89 degrees with continued sunshine. Overnight lows throughout the middle of the week will remain consistent, hovering between 60 and 61 degrees.

The real spike arrives on Thursday, as the region hits the 90-degree mark for the first time this week. Winds will remain light, coming from the east-southeast at just 3 to 5 mph, making for a still and hot afternoon. Thursday night will be mostly clear with a low around 63.

Friday and Saturday are set to be the hottest days of the stretch. Residents should prepare for highs of 92 degrees under direct sun.

Evening temperatures will also begin to climb, with Friday night only cooling down to 64 degrees. With no rain in the immediate forecast, the week is expected to end on a dry, intense note as the Florida spring begins to feel much more like mid-summer.
